CASE STUDY: In a previous role, leading a team of 125 passionate and enthusiastic volunteers I needed to manage the closure of their beloved Centre. In preparation, I created a 'Learning by Stealth' approach; each week I had a new question or theme which I presented to them over coffee. These carefully curated learning prompts triggered their curiosity, developed their thinking, improved their camaraderie and led to ongoing conversations. When at last the news of the closure came, they were resilient, prepared and saw the closure as part of the bigger picture rather than being quite so devastating. This resulted in all the volunteers continuing to serve until the final day of operation, and continued high results for customer service and income generation.
